Sometimes
By  j o n  c o d e r

 HEAR IT HERE

Sometimes I don’t feel like praising
Sometimes the world just seems too hard
When I feel alone I call upon Your name
As You promised you’re by my side
You whisper in my ear

I am your God you are my son
I am your God you are my son
I am your God and I will not forsake you

Sometimes I feel so far from home, so alone
I drop my eyes, I begin to cry at the state my life is in
In my weakness You’re shown strong
As You wrap me in your love
And in Your arms my soul finds rest, and You say…

You are my God I am Your son
You are my God I am Your son
You are my God and I will worship you
You are my God I fall on my knees to worship you

“Sometimes” was written while I was studying abroad in Greece.  I spent about a month in Ancient Corinth and Athens, and by the end of it I was quite lonely and homesick.  I and most everyone else in the group were or had been very sick while we were there.  The food there was good but it was hard on our poor American stomachs. But I digress.

I was sitting in my tiny Athens hotel room one evening trying to have a quiet time, but let’s just say downtown Athens doesn’t sleep on Friday night.  I picked up my guitar to play a little praise music but I was just not into it.

I started to apologize to God.  “God I just don’t feel like praising you, things are just too hard.”  And somehow through all that noise I heard the Spirit tell me not to worry, God is still God and God still loves me.  The rest of the song wrote itself.  It is still a song I love to play cause I can feel God wrap me up in love.

Psalm 139
