Gone Away
By  j o n  c o d e r

Thought I had left but I guess I’m still here
Stuck in yesterday
Packed all my bags for another long stay
Here in the place that I hate
As the days go on by
I’m counting them down
And if I get half a chance I’ll be…

Gone away
Wind in my hair
Forsaking all cares
Living life
Gone away
Stepping out on faith
Trusting God through all the race
Gone away

Now on the road
Living life outside myself
Seeking Your will
Seeking Your Light
Seeking to understand
And searching out
A land You will show
But till that day I’ll be…

Gone Away
Inspired by Your sunrise
As it puts life in my eyes
And starts a new day
Gone Away
In awe of Your sunset
As it wipes away all my regrets
Gone Away

As I remember the places and times in my life
There comes a day we all must let go
And follow You
And I will choose to follow You

"Gone Away" is a very personal song.  It is kind of my life's story.  Its so important to me that I originally wanted to make it the title track for the CD.  As we got into the production we all knew that the CD we were making just needed the name "God and a Guitar".  It was hard to make that change but it was the right call.  "Gone Away" still holds its place as one of the closest to my heart.

In "Gone Away" I talk about always desiring to follow Christ, but I get so caught up in the "things" of life that I lose my focus.  This is just a song that saying to God and everyone that I am ready to fully leave the stuff of this world behind.

Being stuck in a place that you hate is about being stuck in the world and stuck on myself and knowing it but not knowing how to change that. Being gone away means stepping out into God's loving hands and trusting in the plan of his Kingdom.  God throughout time has faithfully provided for his servants and those who seek after his face, and being that God doesn't change its a safe bet that God is still in the business of providing for his people.
